Cut-to-Size Watch Straps: How to Adjust Them to Your Size

The Jean Rousseau Cut-to-Size Rubber Watch Strap is designed to provide a precise fit on any wrist.

Thanks to the cutting guides integrated on the underside, each strap can be gradually shortened until the desired length is achieved.

Lightweight, flexible and water-resistant, it easily complements everyday watches as well as sportier models. Available in black, green, orange and light blue, it comes in two sizes: 20/18 mm and 22/20 mm.

Test, Cut, Check: The Key to a Perfect Fit

The strap comes in a standard length. To adjust it, gradually cut away the segments at the end of each strap side. Each groove shows where to cut.

As each cut is permanent, take your time and adjust the strap step by step.

Test the Length

Before cutting, remove the deployant clasp if it is already attached to the strap. Then install both strap sides on the watch using the quick-release spring bars.

Place the watch on your wrist, then bring the two strap sides over one another underneath the wrist. This step helps you estimate how much length needs to be removed.

Use the center of the wrist as a reference point. Ideally, both strap ends should meet around this area.

Then count the number of segments to remove from each side.

It is normal not to remove the same number of segments from both strap sides. Wrists are not perfectly symmetrical, and the strap may need a different length on each side.

For the first cut, always keep one segment as a margin. It is better to cut slightly less, then adjust afterwards.

Cut the Strap

The strap can be adjusted at home or directly in a Jean Rousseau boutique.

Once the length has been estimated, cut the end of the strap side by following the guide on the lining side. For a clean cut, we recommend using a sharp utility knife on a suitable surface. A pair of well-sharpened scissors may also be used.

Check the Fit

After the first cut, reattach the deployant clasp to the strap by placing the spring bar in the last available hole at the end of the strap side.

Then try the watch on your wrist.

Check that the watch is properly centered on your wrist. Move your hand, rotate your wrist and make sure the strap remains comfortable.

If the strap is still too long, remove one additional segment only from the side that needs adjusting. Both strap sides do not need to be cut in the same way.

Try it on again after each cut, until you achieve the right length.

The key is to take your time and adjust the strap gradually. By removing the segments one by one, you reduce the risk of cutting it too short and achieve a length suited to your wrist.

Once adjusted, the Jean Rousseau Cut-to-Size Rubber Watch Strap offers a comfortable fit, designed to accompany your watch every day.
